The Paradise Valley FFA Chapter attended the 83rd Annual State Leadership Conference from June 7-9. The State Leadership Conference is held in Tucson, AZ on the University of Arizona’s campus. It is the largest event that Arizona FFA puts on every year.
PV FFA was well represented at this year’s State Leadership Conference with several award winners, CDE participants and State Officer Candidates attending the conference.
We had Donald Coon compete in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE where he was given a topic and wrote a 5-6 minute speech about it in 30 minutes. Unfortunately, Donald did not walk away with any of the awards for this CDE but he was able to use it as a learning experience for future situations. We also had a Parliamentary Procedures CDE team compete where they ran a 10 minute meeting and were tested on Parliamentary Procedure in a real life application. We also had several students participate in the Farm Bureau Discussion Meet and even had Tanner and Cole Kemp make the final round and walk away with second and third places respectively. The Paradise Valley FFA Chapter also participated in the Newsletter and Internet CDE, walking away with top honors for the second year in a row.
Isaiah Govea, current PV FFA President was recognized at SLC as the winner of the 2012 Arizona FFA Alumni Washington Leadership Conference Scholarship. With this scholarship, Isaiah will be able to attend WLC in July.
Donald Coon also represented PV FFA as a finalist for State Star in Agricultural Placement, while he was not named State Star, he was a major contender for the position.
Donald Coon and Tanner Kemp also ran for State FFA Office and were elected to State Sentinel and Treasurer respectively.
We are extremely proud of all of our members and are looking forward to more accomplishments in the future. This is going to be a great year for Paradise Valley FFA!
